Dear Ms. McCune:
Back to Baumbach History Main Page

Enclosed are copies of pictures and a brief history of my father's company which he started in 1928. It is still a family owned and operated plumbing business and the second oldest in the area and top rated by Washingtonians Magazine. My father, W. J. Baumbach, received his master plumber license on March 25, 1929 from the District of Columbia. Through the 40's 50's 60's&70's was one of the largest most respected companies in the USA. A lot of the PHC companies in business today around here were either taught at his school or worked for him at one time.

He helped write the uniform code books for both the District of Columbia and the State of Virginia. Taught Plumbing & Heating Schools and was an expert in heating systems and steam. He was a pioneer in the plumbing field; plumbing an entire building before the walls were erected (see enclosures) and holding patents in both the U.S. and Canada for back flow preventers and several others patents. He was the past president of both the Northern Virginia PHCC and Virginia State PHCC.

His daughter (my sister) (retired) Lillian Baumbach Jacobs, became one of the first woman Master Plumber in the United States.(see enclosures) Later my brother Andy B. Baumbach and I got our Masters and now the two of us and our Mother run the company.

If any of the copies of the pictures interest you please call our office and we will be happy to have duplicates made for you.

Sincerely,
William J. Baumbach, II President
Vice President No.Va. PHCC
