I checked out your website & it is very interesting.  My grandmother was Virginia Baumbach.    I also do some family history research when the urge hits me.  I have a copy of a letter written in German circa 1861 (by the original Baumbach the emigrated to the US) that I believe was passed on to me from your father when visiting my mom in Naples, FL in the late 80s.  I sure you already have it but if not, let me know and I'll send you a copy.  I did not see the connection to the Koch family.  Do you have that on your site?  You can reach me at my home email address if you need a copy of the letter at:

 Hi!
Carollyn who said her grandmother was Virginia Smith who had two daughters Norma, Carollyn's Mother and Virginia who lived and died in Naples Fla. Virginia is Tom's Mother. She died of cancer a few years back. She and Lillian Anne Baumbach were very close. They were about the same age and worked together at Baumbachs in the 1950's as did I but was married to Billy Manvell at the time and the two of them barely talked to me. I was not family at the time and worked in the back in stock with Ray Comer. They of course were family and worked upstairs with carpeted floors and aquariums and THE BOSS. That makes Virginia & Norma your first cousins making  Carollyn a second cousin and Tom a second cousin. . I think Tom has a brother and sister. Dad & I visited them in Naples the year before Virginia died that had to be at least 8 to 10 years ago. Beryl D. Baumbach (West) 04-2001

PLEASE KEEP IN TOUCH , YOUR COUSIN CAROLLYN

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out the letter to see if it is the one I
have. My brother has a painting that was done by Virginia Koch in 1906 that
was passed to him from my mom (Virginia Smith) and she received it from her
mom (Virginia Baumbach-Smith). She used to say the Virginia Koch was
related to the German scientist Albert Koch. However, I don't recall if
they were brother/sister or related in some other way. Virginian & Norma
were sisters. I am also working on our family tree to research our name
(Magri). If fact, I'm going with my father & brother to Sicily in October
to check out the city my grandfather emigrated from. However, I want to add
as much from the Smith & Baumbach branches that I can find. There was a
lady Pearl MacStay (Spelling?) now know as Pearl Marstella. I know she was
living in Virginia as recently as three or four years ago. My mom used to
tell me Pearl was very old but that her exact age was quite the mystery. I
believe she was my grandmothers aunt (hard to believe). I wrote to her once
but she did not give me her birth date. I can give you the last address I
had for her if you want to see if she is still around. My mom died in 1992
and I remember that she was alway amazed that Pearl was still alive. Even
if she was the youngest MacStay - she had to be pretty old. Talk to you
later,

Tom
